The Mattancherry Sarvajanik Co-operative Bank Ltd., No.3284, Kochi-682002 was registered on 7th March,1953. Area operation of the bank is-in the Eastern side up to Willingdon Island ,North-Kalamukku Bus stop of Vypin Pallippuram Road, West-Arabian Sea and South-Edacochin ManakkurChira of Chellanam Panchayath. The parental institution, predecessor of this bank was the Mattancherry Saraswath Co-operative Bank Ltd., No.217, Kochi, registered in the erst-while Cochin State in the year 1106 M .E., Under the Regulation No.4 of 1088 M .E. The said society was purely a communal one and only persons belonging to the Gowda Saraswath Brahmin Community were admitted as members. It worked successfully for 23 years and built up a large clientele and good resources of its own. When the Travancore Cochin Co-operative Act X 1953 came in to existence the said Mattancherry Saraswath Co-operative Bank Ltd., No.217 went in to voluntary liquidation in the year 1953 as the continuance of communal societies was ultra vires of the said act.
